Only driven in the Caddy from AVIS, which is a "stripper" model, but the Northstar V8 is more powerful then the V8 in the Town Car.
Not sure if they have the same designations now for the Town Car - looking at the Lincoln website, there seems to be only Signature, Signature Limited, and Signature Limited Long Wheelbase (with option packages rounding out the sub-catagories) for the 2005 model year.
Anyhow, I just spent the past four days bombing around in a black Signature Limited Town Car (Mafia Staff Car Edition). I drove it from LA to Las Vegas and back on I-15 and all around Vegas, Henderson, and Summerlin. MPG on the interstate was 21.5, averaging 80 MPH with three pax, luggage, and the a/c on full blast (it was over 100 degrees the entire way). MPG in stop and go city driving was 17.5, again with the a/c on full blast.
This version of the limited had the powered trunk release, moonroof and the wood/leather steering wheel. All were nice, except for the steering wheel, which was too hot to touch after two hours parked in the hot Vegas sun. I also appreciated the standard backup sensors, which were helpfull when backing out of stalls.
Also nice was the dual climate a/c, which struggled to keep the car cool at the auto 68 degrees setting with the exterior temps in tripple digits. This meant the fan was blowing full blast most of the time, which I did not mind, but my passengers complained about. I lowered the fan to med/med low and set my temp for 60 and theirs for 70 and they seemed happy.
Audio was nice, lots of power and good clarity. Controls on the steering wheel for volume and channel selection are a nice touch.
Over all drive - she still floats over the bumps, but does not wallow as much in the cloverleafs. Good sticking power through the curves and parking lots - no sense that the beast is about to get loose from you. Power is good - no problems passing cars or punching it on the on ramps. The auto tranny does a good job of moving through the gears smoothly. Brakes are solid and get the heavy lady stopped well. Very comfortable and quiet all around.
