I'm a bit puzzled regarding your assignment in 8C if you don't have status. Usually row 8 is reserved for elites for advanced booking. Perhaps you paid full fare or something and Reservations assigned 8C to you as a result? Or maybe because the flight is full?

Have you tried calling Web Support if they're still open? They might be able to figure out the reason that online check-in is giving you 27C.
