Not referring to the general public at large, but rather the food service industry. Work in a kitchen someday and look at what people do with their latex gloves on. OTOH, most restaurants are (correctly) downright obsessive about frequent hand washing in the kitchen. Many even have hand soap dispenser pump "counters" that they then compare at the end of the day to the number of employee hours worked to ensure the proper amount handwashing is occurring (usually a minimum of every 15-20 minutes for each employee).
