The autopilot is the alternative and can be more interesting to hold a conversation in the bar with.

Just thought I would mention that our friends on the flight deck hate being referred to as "Flight Deck". This, they enjoy pointing out, is where they work and not who they are. Just as I am Cabin Crew and not Cabin, they prefer the term Flight Crew or Tech Crew, as opposed to being named after a room.
