A few thoughts...
In my experience BA will only allocate exit row seats at check in, but they are notoriuosly unreliable...earlier the better.
As an OWE and PPS I often ask about load and am quite happy to take a centre aisle seat and ASK them to block the middle...if they have any empties on the flight they wil be next to me...works most times on most airlines...esp if it's the airline you have the status with.
Buy the whole row (not recommended)
Have really bad BO and the others will move after takeoff...
If you do get a speare seat or two next to you, pile your stuff into it to keep others away...selfish but necessary...
