virtualtroy, try Billy Kwong's in Darlinghurst (I think). Run by celebrity chef called Kylie Kwong (don't laugh ) the place serves simple, superbly executed modern Australian cooking with great, fresh ingredients. The dining room is pretty, casual and very convival. No bookings taken, just turn up. Probably my second nicest meal last year and an all round more enjoyable experience than Rockpool.
