You'll get the opposite on a lot of overnight international flights. I've had to force the purser to turn down the heat because it was so hot (once it was set at 85 degrees!). They like turning up the heat because it makes people sleepy. An easy telltale sign of a lackluster crew.

Ugh. I suffered through ORD-LHR on a flight like that once. The heat made me more tired, but it also made it practically impossible to sleep. (To make things worse, the lights in the main cabin were ON for the entire duration of the flight for some strange reason.) All in all, a good recipe for irritable passengers.
I always find it much easier to sleep when it's cold, even when I'm not as tired to begin with.
