This also happened to me. We were disembarking from a BA flight at LHR. I was surprised to see a AA rep with a sign with my name on it. They too drove us over to T3 to catch a flight back to Boston. If they hadn't driven us, we would have most likely missed the flight.

That so didn't happen to us recently, although it would have been hard to do it under the circumstances.
SJC-LAX-LHR, with a 45 minute layover at LAX (the system booked it, so it must be ok). Well, the RJ was about 20 minutes late getting in, and we still had to bus from the little shack used for the RJs to Terminal 4. Called the EXP desk from the plane, then from the bus. They called the gate to get them to try and hold. Would have been nice to have someone meet us at the top of the Terminal 4 stairs to take us to the gate at the far end. It all worked out, they waited for us. I'm still thinking, though, that it's only because I called.
