Last night I was on the MCO-JFK 7:10 flight after my MCO-LGA 8:30 flight was cancelled. We were placed on the seat request list and by the time we got to the gate we had cleared. However, a little old woman, probably in here late 70's, cane and all, was still waiting for a seat. At the GA desk, she was in front of us in line before we had read our seat assignment cleared. The GA asked her if she could operate the exit row if needed. She said, "Sure, so long as nothing happens." Okay, well isn't the point of the question surrounded around the idea that something could happen and you would have to act on that. Instead of telling her she could not have the exit row and find another seat for her by asking for someone to take it, he gave her the exit row. Had something happened, there is no way this women could have operated anything. It annoys me that SONG would allow this. I know the chances are slim, but if something were to happen, you need someone capable of handling the responsibility. She blatently said she could not more or less and it was ignored.

to the GA. The friggin cane should have been a dead giveaway. I mean, come on! Depending on the mood I was in, I might have been bold enough to have complained to an FA. Especially after the idiotic response of "Sure, as long as nothing happens." So, she would be fine with opening the emergency exit... so long as she would not have to open the emergency exit?
