Indeed. KLM does not pre-assign coach seats on European flights. The earliest you can pick seats would be by phone/web check-in ~24 hours before departure.
Does this also apply to Cityhopper flights? I remember that my travel agent could select seats for me on Cityhopper only some months ago. (But on my last few flights it was not possible...)
