No. US is the same.
With Skyteam airlines, you have no access to lounges on US domestic itineraries, and, in OW, you have no access to AA lounges as an AA EXP on a purely domestic itinerary either.

Just the different culture between US programs, in which lounge access is a separate paid program, and European/Asian programmes, for whom lounge access is an elite perk.
