I've never gotten pre-assigned seats on CZ (even on my J award last week) or any other Chinese airline, for that matter. However, they can add your preferences to your record locator.

On domestic flights, at least, Chinese airlines tend to fill up pax from rear to front so it's usually wise to lobby for seats as far forward as possible (mini cabin on 757s!).
