As long as you are both going on a Star Alliance flight you can use the Red Carpet Clubs and invite I guest. However United's domestic lounges are not up to much - particulalry the domestic ones. With the exception of a limited range of soft drinks drinks have to be paid for. The most food you'll get are a few nuts.
