I think the OP lives in the East and wants to travel west with an overnight-Saturday stay before returning home - so as to qualify for some lower fares. Thus, a departure after midnight on Saturday would be necessary, as stated in the initial post.

Some responses have assumed that the OP lives on the West Coast, thus believing that the OP made a mistake in posting. I don't believe the OP made a mistake in the post.
