Never say never

I was a once a year traveler many years ago if I was lucky.
My family was lucky decades ago to afford a Howard Johnson motel.
We were thrilled to stay there as kids.
I admit to being spoiled pretty good these days thanks to Hyatt and a few other good high quality brands.
Don't think I could ever give up the relationship.

Whatever you do in the future don't think you can't have a good stay or bank points in a program for a rainy day just because you aren't an elite or a VIP member.
Hyatt gave me some memory making experiences as a general member and as a Platinum, but continues to excel even more as a top tier Diamond member.
