I had to spend about 15 minutes looking for a local area number as opposed to using the 1-800 number since my calling card won't let me make calls to 1-800 numbers. The UK ticket office was closed and I needed to make an immediate change to an itenerary. I finally found an 817 AAdvantage number and had them transfer me to reservations. It's also cheaper to make this call for me than calling the UK office and usually the UK office is fairly clueless so I almost always call the 817 number anytime I need to change a reservation.

So, a little different than needing the Shreveport ticket counter, but a case where the calling the 1-800 number wasn't possible.
