I have found looking at them, listening intently and writing down details of what they are saying and any phone numbers they mention seems to put them of quite successfully

I was once in the lounge when someone from my company's main competitor was sitting at the next table having a very detaled conversation about some private company business. When he had finished I told him who I worked for and thanked him for the information - his face was a picture

Recently I arrived at JFK to take BA178 (daylight service) to LHR. On arrival in the Terraces Lounge I put down my stuff and went to get some coffee and croissants. When I got back HE was there - plucking his braces (suspenders in American) and talking loudly into a cell phone when another phone rang. He reached into his pocket and answered that one, proceeding to report one conversation in the next so that I heard everything twice. Then he proposed a conference call, which they proceeded to have - full of what sounded like proprietary information - not my field though. Anyway, I took my leave after I'd finished eating only to find myself seated opposite HIM (the same broadcaster) on the upper deck of the 744. Then came the magic words from the FA - all cell phones must now be switched off. Six hours of peace, quiet and tranquility ensued.

Preserve our sanity - no mobile phones in flight.
