Speaking of private clubs, I am a proud card-carrying member of some Applebee's somewhere near Dallas. (Oops...lost the card. ) Seriously...... is up with those stupid private club laws? Not like they have any impact on overall beverage consumption.

Interesting Texas anecdote: I worked in San Antonio for about eight weeks. I honestly enjoyed the place: ate a crapload of great Mexican food and sampled most of the 27 different Marriotts that seem to be clustered around the downtown area. I even hit a pretty passable steakhouse over near the Alamodome, but for the life of me I can't recall its name. (I'm on the backside of about a bottle of merlot - please forgive me.)

But...the strangest thing was this: whenever one of my clients wanted to show me around town, they always first and foremost wanted to show me the city's high school football stadium. Forget the Alamo (or even the Alamodome) - let's talk HS football! It's close to the center of SA, seats about 15,000 people, and is sold out every Friday night during the season. I think three or four high schools play there. Anyway, people call talk radio to blab about HS football in San Antonio. It's as serious as a heart attack down there. Very bizarre.
