Here in GCM, a former Station Manager gave me the unlisted # many years ago. At the time, I was led to believe that some of AA's top tier members have direct access to their local AA stations as well as have access to unlisted #'s for special services.

I don't normally call the ticket counter but when I did have a reason, it was simply to advise the lead agent that I was running late and would be there shortly to check-in. Occasionally, I have a tendency to be the last person to check-in, but not so late as to delay the flight!
