I don't know what Schipol you went to, but that is one damn nice airport. I have always seen it spotless, the access to ground transportation is very convenient, and if you take the train, very frequent at all hours of the day or night. Customs and immigration are always thorough and efficient, the place is well-marked, there are nice shops and food options available, and overall it's a very well-planned and well-maintained airport.
