Going back is a different story. It shouldn't be but it is. If I remember, you should see signs for 495. This you might seek somebody else's help. I'm always taking the LIRR out and driving back with my husband.
There are signs to 495 coming off the bridge, but they take you on a more circuitous route than if you just make a right on Van Dam Street off of Queens Blvd, and then a left on the LIE service road and onto the expressway.
