You can get an idea if you check out www.yodobashi.com, which is an on-line shop of major camera and electrical shop.
The web site is in Japanese.
If you do not understand Japanese, I can kind of give you instruction.
1) You will see www.yodobashi.com on their top page.
2) There is menu bar under that site address (Yellow and white words on black label.). First one is in yellow then the next white one is for digital camera. Click this one.
3) You will see a lot of menu now.
Pick the first one on the left under camera pictures with yellow background. This is 10 popular digital cameras at their shop.

If you want to check by manufacture, you can pick one under camera pictures with black background on this page.

The price on this web site is not the cheapest, but I believe it will help you to have some idea to compare the price in your country.
When you check the price here, you will also see some % figures next to the price. This is the house points you can get and you can use it when you buy something at the shop next time (you can use the points from the day after your purchase). So please do not forget to count these house points when you consider the price.

There are some shops in Akihabara where you could sometimes find really low prices. But such products are sometimes from different lot and difficult to deal with when you have any problems with your camera.
So I suggest you to go major shop even though the price is a bit higher.

As for the users' manual, you can get the one in either in English or other languages (rather than in Japanese) for many models. Or they will often provide CD-R version fo manual which you could choose the language.
For camera itself, you can choose the language at its menu options.

The instruction I gave you above is for compact digital camera. If you are interestd in big size digital camera (?), you need to check out the ones at second section on the right @ instruction 3).

There is also web site where you can see the price comparison of each camera. But unless you are familier to Japanese, it is difficult to understand.
So I just let you know this yodobashi web site this time.
