So by your logic, LH shouldn't be running those all-business flights from DUS and MUC to the U.S. so that FRA and other hub(s) can be bypassed. LH did find that there are people willing to pay the BC fare but not enough who would pay back cabin fares in these markets.
Theoratically but in practise? I've heard that the multi/twin engine does make a difference in who actually flies the a/c. A340 pilots don't just switch to A330s and v-v. And why pay FEs? None are needed in most large a/c built within the past.... 16 years.
If there's a large enough market, NW will operate from a non-hub to an international destination. While an a/c as small as a 332 may be too big, a 787-8 may be just the right size.
Unfortunately the US legacy carriers have lost money for virtually their whole existence, it is mind boggling that airlines like Delta or United are still in business protected by a Government that is blaming the EU of unfair aids
Indeed LH is not flying any 742`s anymore, but they are still paying the flight engineers big time monthly, because of their contracts.
Again a pilot can fly either a 330 or 340 with the same training and rating, Airbus initial plan was one type rating for all Airbus aircraft...
I pointed out the economics of LH`s all C class flights numerous times before and that the situation is unique, there is only one city with the importance of NYC on this planet and only one market like DUS on this planet as well, with a brilliant combination of the biggest fair in Germany, the third biggest catchment area as well as such nasty regulations, so if you can name me any other route where the all C BBJ would work, I am more than happy to pay your air fare to GVA to negotiate with Private Air to start up a new airline...
