OK, so Amex and CO marketed several double miles (or triple miles or 2000 miles/segment) bonuses simultaneously. CO and Amex had several opportunities to avoid this mess (if in fact they consider it one). First, they could operated the multiple double miles promotions as a single double miles promotion. Second, they could have prevented me from signing up to any of the bonuses that were truly "non-transferable". Third, the rules could have stated that multiple bonuses were not allowed ("not good with any other offer" is pretty standard language for most promotions in other industries) and then prevented me from signing up for multiple bonuses. Fourth, they could have unilaterally decided to not post all the bonuses.

However, as soon as they posted the miles, causing me to change my flying behavior and spend more money on CO flights, they lost any real ground to stand on. They can remove some of my bonus miles, but they had better refund the $1500 in airfare that I spent specifically becaus of the bonus miles (all tickets purchased *after* multiple bonuses appeared on a March flight).

For what it's worth, the only adjustments I have had have been a mysterious addition of 5,000 miles 2 weeks ago (probably crediting bonuses earned earlier for a manually entered flight).
