I had this same problem - only it was the security agent just before the x-ray machine that wanted to hassle me. She weighed my backpack (never had security weigh it before). Was 9 kilos. I travel w a backpack within a backpack. Removed one, making two carry ons. NO PROBLEM now.

Go figure.
