These are hard-wired ethernet (RJ45) ports. And, yes, they will give you a free t-mobile card good for some amount of time. I'm not sure how much as I didn't use it, having a t-mobile account. This was the case as of 4/22 for me, and more recently, it seems, for
cphobes.
I'm not sure I'd count on it as a long term solution, though. They may, for example, try to verify that one has a t-mobile account before giving the card, although that would not be easy.
