As for Tesco. Well, BA is the only airline in the UK that allows you to earn miles from your shopping, so not a whole lot of competition needed there. You're right to say that Tesco is not particularly generous with its Clubcard promotions, but this is very much a Tesco issue (much like your car rental/hotel argument above). It's also interesting to note that, similarly to BA, Tesco is the most successful company in its arena.

Tesco used to be Very Very generous with Club card offers until Idiots started appearing in National newspapers, for their moment of fame, boasting about how they bought a few biscuits and got a Concorde ticket.
It all went down hill from there.
