Gee, and I thought I was nuts. I do think that if you've only been on 777, 767 BF that when you get on a 757 in BF you'll look around and go "ugh, it doesn't really "feel" like
first class" (and of course it isn't a true first class, but I find on a widebody, it's always comfortable enough for me.) I also prefer DC10 BF to 757 BF also, but wouldn't change my schedule to get one
But ya know-- it's all relative. On a recent BF flight to HKG, I sat near a mega-super-frequent flyer. I didn't get a figure out of him but I get the feeling he flies over 250,000 miles a year, usually on United. When we were chatting-- and after he got over the initial queasiness induced by my telling him that my ticket was $1000 (his was over $4000.,) He was telling me how "crappy" the service and seats were on our 777 BF.
He was, of course, used to travelling in a true First Class product from NY-Asia and only bought a BF ticket because the savings was over $3000 compared to United FC.
Now on this particular flight, service was a bit sub-par compared to my other BF flights this year-- but still decent. He regaled me with tales of a genuine FC product and I understood where he was coming from as I had been on a few FC flights NY-Europe in previous years. As a side note he had never even heard of FT-- and in my experience that's not at all uncommon. Oh well, more for us!
So, the real answer is: any BF is better than no BF, but I guess many (maybe most?) here do feel that the 777 ads quite a bit to the "experience." When I went to Lisbon earlier this year I flew out of MAD on the way home just to get away from the 757-- but as I mentioned, I'm a little nuts.
Needless to say if your trip is going to involve waitlisting for BF on any leg, the 777 offers a very tangible advantage in it's sheer number of BF seats. Plus, you never know when you'll
really luck out and get an empty seat next to you on a BF 777 flight
