You should be fine. My recent flights to NYC have resulted in being sent back to the check in desk to have a burgundy CX waiver type tag applied to the bag. I have now learned to ask for this before leaving the F class podium. Checked baggage has never been a concern. After four flights, I still recommend the onestop via YVR.
