Sometimes this happens to me too, sometimes it doesn't. What I've noticed is when a new page opens without my User Name, when I go back to my main window and read posts, from then on, it doesn't recognize them as read. I have to click on "Mark Forums Read", log out, close the internet, log back in and then it starts recognizing forums as read.
