Island Airlines Moving to the Interisland Terminal at OGG?
Noticed some Island Air & Kahului airport officals at AQ's gate 13 & 15 this past Monday. Had a chance to talk to one of them and they said that AQ will be losing gate's 13 & 15 and will be using gate 9 & 11 for their interisland flights by the middle of May. Gate 13 will be used as a backup and gate 9 will be used as an emergency gate for AQ's ETOP'S flights to the mainland which will have 5 daily flights by July.
I wonder how their passengers will deplane and and board. Will they deplane and then walk up the jetbridge stairs and thru the bridge to get into the holding rooms and reverse when they are boarding, or will they walk on the airport tarmac to the 1st floor holding rooms and up the stairs to the 2nd floor holding rooms and then to the baggage and rental car areas. Can you see a potential accident waiting to happen with all of the ground traffic from the other airlines driving thru?
The congestion at Kahului Airport will only get more congested by this relocation.
Just a thought.
