The AC unit in the room is a joke (been running it on high for the past 28 hours with not much cooling going on -- and it isn't even warm out today, but then again, I like it cooler than most). The lounge seemed a little run down to me, too. Wireless Internet for $10/day, when you check-in, you get a direct dial phone number, and they have the new alarm clocks with the line-in/mp3/ipod connector. Fairly close to metro stops; had no trouble taking the metro in from DCA and rolling my luggage to the hotel. Since you brought it up, thread count on the sheets: sheet says "HH Collection" 96x128, 60% cotton, 40% polyester; sheets are okay, not great, not bad.
My first time in DC, so don't have any other stays to compare with.
JDN, thanks for the great info on the Capital Hilton including the thread count!
I ended up booking at the Sofitel for my stay. Considering the ES is under renovation, the CH is a bit run down and just as pricy as the Sofitel and the HGI was more than the Sofitel or the CH, i felt the Sofitel was the best choice. I really wanted to give Hilton my business as a gold but the Sofitel promises to be a nicer property than any of the Hilton properties at the same price. The ES was cheaper but the renovations put me off.
