American Airlines and Delta Air Lines axed their fare increases on Monday, once it became clear that Northwest Airlines Corp., the nation’s fourth-largest airline, would not mimic the price change introduced Friday by America West Airlines, said UBS Warburg analyst Sam Buttrick.
That triggered a reversal by America West. Continental, United and US Airways, which also increased rates over the weekend, were expected to undo the price change, too.
