I just make sure I have a full charge before boarding. I also like my targus because I have the tips to charge several other appliances.
I remember the first time I took a business trip with an aftermarket AC/DC powersupply for my D600 for one week. I didn't know that it was not charging the battery. By the end of the week, my 2 batteries were dead and I could only run my computer while plugged in.

For me, it isn't worth the hassle. I would only get an official Dell so that I can charge the battery with it.

I stopped into a Laptop Lane at Ohare last week when I saw their sign that they have power tips to fit the new Dells for the IGO juice. The sales person warned me that it won't charge the battery--only power the computer.
