If it's a big stretch in terms of flying or expense, it's probably not worth it. That's not to say that being Gold doesn't have its perks. My highlights this year have been:
- Getting to use the Terraces Lounge rather than BD's Business Lounge when I had to travel with LO
- Feeling that I was clearing waitlists more quickly or being assigned better seats when booking business trips on short notice
- Getting to sip champagne in the First Lounge before my holiday flights within Europe
- Getting an op-up when flying in CX Y
- Getting access to the First Class sides of the Wing and the Pier in HKG
- Getting access to the BA / QF First Lounge in SIN rather than being confined to the CX Lounge
- Just feeling more relaxed about qualifying, because I know I'd have another year of status if I didn't have enough tier points even for Silver
All in all, not a bad list of items, but I wouldn't spend a lot of money for them. Silver would be more than adequate for most of my travels with BA.
