UA is like a sick pet, it needs to be put out of it's misery (ie: shut down).
AA, NW, CO, LCC's etc. will be able to survive if they can divvy up UA's routes and planes. Overall demand for air travel is up, so current UA employees will likely be able to find jobs with other airlines.
Keeping those pensions would cause UA to go under. That would mean they'd all lose their jobs. That's better than staying employed without a pension?

If they can get other jobs at other ailines, they're welcome to leave.
Let's keep a grip on reality here, OK. This isn't fairly-tale land. UA cannot survive and keep those pensions, so I guess you prefer they go under and all those employees become unemployed. Great answer.
