Thumbs up

I was there last night for the inaugural opening event....

The building itself is the most fascinating thing to me. I love the style and angles of the building...

The main hall where a lot of the tanks and other equipment (including a Voodoo fighter I believe) is pretty impressive... I like the museum of civilizations hall better but it is great that the War Museum now has a venue that the can show off and protect a lot of the older tanks and such with them being on display instead of mothballed...

The "Art and War: Australia, Britain and Canada in the Second World War" temporary exhibit is actually quite good. I like art and the detail in some of the paintings were quite impressive and conveyed the feelings of the people involved in the war...

The primary exhibit preview was pretty good. There were a lot of areas still being finalized so there were quite a few covered or empty display cases but it was quite interesting to go through (although quickly as they were shutting down at 8:30 pm). I'm looking forward to going back in a couple months once things have stabilized.

The opening ceremonies were pretty good. There were a lot of diplomats and the Prime Minister was there as well. Canada Post unvieled a stamp commemorating the opening and we were all given one of the first day issue stamps when we were on our way out...

One of the things I really liked was that on the way down to the main hall where all the tanks and such are, there is fuselage art from different planes mounted on the wall.. It is really quite interesting to look at...

Take care...
