Immigration is well staffed and as fast (if not faster) than UK airports. Hungary is not in thhe Schengen zone so all flights go through passport control. You may even be able to transit without going through passport control (MALEV use BUD as a hub so this facility must exist somewhere).
There is a dedicated BA lounge - I would imagine either they or the adjacent gate would be able to check you in.
The terminal is nice enough and pretty small.
