Last Minute Fares
Just wondering, I seem to notice that AK, or any other LCC, AFAIK, do not have any last minute fares. If you try to book like a couple of days before your intended departure date, the price quoted will be skyhigh, i.e. you'd probably get better fares flying the regular airlines. Eg. if you book SIN BKK on AK very far in advance, the price can be the SGD1.99 promo fare. But if you're intending to buy the ticket for next day's departure, it can be in the range of SGD 85.99 - 109.99, one way.
I am aware of "the further out you pay, the cheaper the tickets will be" model. But isnt it probably better to sell off the unsold seats as on a "last minute" fares at the last minute? At rock-bottom prices, maybe? I mean, a revenue seat is better than flying an empty non-revenue seat.
The high price would probably deter the price-conscious customers. Hmmm... Arent they the main market of the LCCs?
Can they set up a last minute sales counter? Or an online clearance sale within 5 hours of the flight? No ticket needs to be issued/collected anyway.
The pricing model can then be something like a bell curve of price vs time of purchase.
What did I miss in the LCC's yield management logic? Heheh... an oxymoron, you say? =P
