The Leon, Mexico I know is a long way from Puerto Vallarta, and nowhere near any coast, about equally distant from the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico.

According to Airliners - the sci.aeronautics.airliners newsgroup's Great circle flight path display it's 245 airline miles.

I'd say that it's an all day bus ride by way of Guadalajara, there's a lot of mountains between there and the coast.
