No, the original poster is correct. Denmark and the UK negotiated formal opt-outs from the Euro when they joined the EU, but the 10 new members (and Sweden) did not, so technically they have to join the Euro as soon as possible.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say that the Euro is the greatest thing since prebuttered sliced bread in a pink Hello Kitty package, and I eagerly await the day ASEAN gets its act together and adopts the Duriano.
