I think this is what you're talking about. And I think they already have it.

Today, on CO.com, I ran an itinerary for ATL-LGA. Afterwards, I went back to the left frame and inadvertently clicked on "ATL". A pull down menu popped up showing nearby airports and distances in KM (MCN, etc...) Same for LGA (JFK, EWR, etc.)
