We echo your concerns re Chedi Phuket. Suggest you avoid, as we were disappointed. Not upto the standards of its former sister, the Chedi Ubud (Bali)...now the Alila.

Personally, we would take Bali over Phuket anyday. Highly recommend both the Four Seasons Sayan and Jimbaran, although they can be pricey. Have heard great things about Begawan Giri, but recommend you book while over there to get best deals. Just returned from Bali in Feb, and hotels are running at 30-40% occupancy...so walk-ins do very well.
