So what if instead of telling them you want to fly (say) SIN-BNE-SYD-PER and arguing about which is the extra segment, you tell them you want to fly SIN-BNE,SYD-PER? How can they object to that? (Then you just buy the BNE-SYD ticket as a separate one-way red e-Deal). You lose some flexibility for date changes without a fee, but that's the only loss, surely?
