This will be an unusual response. We lived in Manhattan for 27 years and saw numerous "celebrities." Let me say first of all that I could care less about movie stars, etc., but here are my two favorites, based on my work with cancer patients and family members...

1. David Letterman - he personally went out of his way to reach out to a very special family (both dad and son had cancer). He insisted on absolutely no recognition or publicity. Sorry, Dave!

2. Hugh Grant - In the midst of filming, he took time to spend quality minutes with a patient. I do believe he spent about an hour, probably messing up all sorts of production schedules. Thanks, Hugh

As I mentioned, I care little about those normally in the public spotlight and I wish we could focus more on those involved in life and death issues. But, since you asked, keep an eye open for Letterman and Grant and, if you should see them, tell them that you appreciate the fact that their humanity far surpassed their fame!
