I've seen this same behavior just yesterday with a 'held' award ticket. I held a ticket and choose my seats, then about 30 minutes later I cancelled the ticket. Even 3 hours after I 'released' the seat, it stil showed unavailable. There is always the chance that someone snagged it right after I gave it up, but on MSN -ORD, that seems highly unlikely.
