While not an admitted computer dummy like my buddy Traveller, I am a wireless newbie. I’ve got a new Mac Powerbook with wireless capability and I find that the strength of the signal seems not as important as the wireless provider. I’m at a non-Marriott property in PHX now and the signal is just 5 out of 15 bars but it’s zipping right along. Wayport is the provider here.
Over the weekend I was getting 10 out of 15 bars at another property and the wireless provider was a no-name. The speed was terrible.
Is the wireless provider an important factor in the speed or is it totally dependent on the number of users who are online, regardless of provider?
