Actually, he's doing a round trip CVG - LV on AA, BA (LHR - TLV only) and AA codeshares (LX) with a 1.0 EQP / EQM, iirc. ^

You are exactly right, he will only earn the EQM / EQP entitled to by the fare class and segment lengths - he'll earn the 25% (and 100% on the flight he crosses the Plat threshhold on plus the following) redeemable miles. People do get confused by all that easily (Elite-Qualfying vs. redeemable, and what the COS, status and other bonus miles are.)
