Depending on the answer to some/all of those will probably be what determines what they do for you.
I booked the reservation about 1 1/2 weeks in advance and definitely had the MR Number as part of the Res. I did not, however, get the compensation prior to leaving as, again, I wasn't aware of the policy (shame on me as a 7 yr. Marriott Rewards member, 4 of those as Plat).
What bothers me more than getting walked is the fact that they did not offer or even mention about paying for the hotel at the Walked-To Location (I did get the rate I was quoted at the original hotel).
Since this is Marriott's policy you would hope and think that they would be aware of this policy and would take care of it for you at the hotel without asking.
My guess is that I have about a 50/50 chance of getting a 'compensation' check, but that I should definitely have at least one night refunded, since I had to pay at the second hotel.
