Silver Elite, WALKED at Residence Inn

I am a Silver Elite Marriott Rewards member and just became aware of the following policy for Elite Members:

"The Ultimate Reservation Guarantee"

"If for some reason we are unable to honor your reservation, we will pay for your accommodations that night at a nearby hotel and send you a check to compensate you for the inconvenience. (Compensation varies by hotel brand)."

I was WALKED back in Feb 2005 from one RI to another RI a few miles away, and the hotel never offered any type of compensation. Furthermore, I had to pay for my room at the Walked-To Hotel, it was not paid for by Marriott.

I was not aware of the policy at that time, but just read about it and have sent an email to Marriott through their 'Contact Us' section on the Marriott Rewards Website.

Does situation qualify for the Guarantee? Has anyone taken up Marriott on this Guarantee before? What should I expect to get back from Marriott, if anything? The rate for one night after taxes was $95.03.
